YOUNG KING, THE. Scottish, Hornpipe. E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by the great Scots fiddler-composer J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927). Skinner's collection contains the note, “A favourite pupil of the composer”. The tune would seem to be dedicated to Albert Edward (1841-1910), who became King of England as Edward VII. Skinner had contact with the Royal Household early in his adult career as a dancing master when he taught at Queen Victoria’s Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle.
