BLOTE'R GORLLEWIN (Flowers of the West). Welsh, Air or March (4/4 time). E Minor: G Minor (Jones). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Compare with John Playford's "Glory of the West (The)," which first appeared in the first edition of the English Dancing Master (London, 1651) and was retained through every subsequent edition until the end of the long running series (which concluded with the 18th edition in 1728, by which time it was published by John Young). Playford's tune, while a distanced version, is clearly related. The Welsh version, as "Blote'r Gorllewin", first appeared in John Parry's British Harmony (1783), and also was included in Edward Jones ('Bardd y Brenin') The Bardic Museum (London, 1802, reprinted in 1810, as "Blodau y' Gorllewin").
