DARK MAIDEN OF THE VALLEY, THE (An MaigDean Dub On Feorain). AKA and see "The Maiden." Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). E Minor/G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The air is a simpler version of "Bean Dubh a' Ghleanna [1]" (The Dark Woman of the Glen), which O'Neill obtained from fiddler Danile Sullivan of Boston, a native of Millstreet, County Cork.

Source for notated version: attributed to Chicago Police Sergeant James O'Neill, originally from County Down and Francis O'Neill's collaborator [O'Neill].

Printed sources: O'Neill (Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies), 1903; No. 368, p. 64.
