ARDOCH HOUSE. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Magdalene Stirling (1765-1846), the youngest daughter of Sir William Stirling, 4th Baronet of Ardoch, and his wife Christian Erskine. Magdalene's tunes were often published by others, with and without attribution (sometimes to "biography:Miss Stirling of Ardoch") prior to her own publication in 1812. Her home, Ardoch House, was built in 1793 for William Stirling, at Ardoch, Perthshire, but has since been demolished [1]. Nearby is the former site of one of the largest Roman camps in Scotland.
