Daniel McLaren's name is found in the lists of subscribers to Niel Gow's first few collections, beginning with the first in 1784, where he is identified as a musician living in Edinburgh, although he seems to have been from Taymouth, Perthshire. McLaren published his own collection (Collection of Strathspey Reels, etc.) in 1794.
