CAPTAIN KELLY'S REEL [3]. AKA and see "New Miss McLeod (The)." Irish, Reel. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. The reel appears in the c. 1885 music manuscript copybook of fiddler Francis Reynolds of Gaigue, Ballinamuck, County Longford, under the title "Captain Kelly's Reel." Researcher Conor Ward finds the reel also entered into the music copybook of another regional musician, Stephen Grier (County Leitrim), who compiled his manuscript just a few years earlier, around 1883. Grier's name for the tune was "New Miss McLeod (The)," and Grier and Reynolds entered their tunes with the strains reversed from each other, notes Ward.
