The melody (as "Welsh Fusileers") appears in the Bodleian Manuscript (kept in the Bodleian Library, Oxford), inscribed "A Collection of the Newest Country Dances Performed in Scotland written at Edinburgh by D[avid].A. Young, W.M. 1740."
