WELCOME HOME MY DEARIE [1]. AKA - "You've Been Long Away Welcome Home My Dearie." AKA and see "Nine Nights Away/Awa, Welcome Home My Dearie." Scottish, English; Old Hornpipe (3/2 or 3/4 time). England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Vickers): AABB (Johnson). Johnson (1964) thinks the tune dates from the late 17th century. Later it was published in Neil Stewart's 1761 collection, the [James] 'Gillespie Manuscript of Perth (1768), and William Vickers' 1770 Northumbrian collection. There are words associated with the tune from which are taken the title:
You've been long away. Welcome home my Dearie.
