ALEXANDER MACDONALD. Canadian, Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The reel was composed by fiddler J.D. Kennedy, who (according to Paul Cranford) had a number of musical siblings, including Danny Michael Kennedy, father of fiddler Willie Kennedy of Mabou. Jerry Holland learned the tune in Boston from Cape Breton fiddlers when he was still young. Its first appearance in print is in Gordon MacQuarrie's The Cape Breton Collection (1940), along with several other tunes including his most popular tune, "Catherine MacIsaac's Wedding Day."
