ASH WEDNESDAY [1]. English, Triple Hornpipe (3/2 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody and dance instructions were printed in the first supplement to John and Henry Playford's Dancing Master, 7th edition (1687), the last volume John was involved with prior to his death. It was also published by Henry Playford the same year in the 5th edition of Apollo's Banquet (1786).
