RAHEEN REEL [3]. AKA and see "Galway Shawl (The)," “Murphy's Reel (3).” AKA – “Dingle Reel (The).” Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB. From the Murphy Family, recorded with fiddler Kevin Burke on “Up Close” (1984), as the third tune of the “Raheen Reels”. Phil Murphy heard the tune at an early 1970’session during the "Fleadh Ceol" in Listowel, Co. Kerry. Phil’s son John believes that his father called the reel after the musicians whom he heard play it, who were from the Dingle (Co. Kerry) area. Fiddler Séamus Connolly & Laurel Martin print the tune in their book Forget Me Not (2002) as “Murphy’s.” Jack and Fr. Charlie Coen recorded a the tune as "Galway Shawl (The)" on their album, and said it was a popular tune in their area when they were growing up.
