RAKE’S MARCH, THE. AKA and see "Jackson's Babby," "Jackson's Babes," "Lanamacree," "Leanbh Mo Chroí," "Tanning the Leather." Irish, March (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Bachal an ghrinn or The Rakes March" was entered into the mid-19th music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Rev. James Goodman. The jig appears under the title "Jackson's Babby" in the c. 1865 Gunn Manuscript collection from County Fermanagh, while the variant "Tanning the Leather" is to be found in the Rice-Walsh manuscript, and "Leanbh Mo Chroí" in the Stephen Grier manuscript (County Leitrim).
