RAKES OF DRUMLISH [2], THE. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Drumlish is in County Longford, not far from the home of the tune’s composer, fiddler Paddy Reynolds (1920-2011). According to New York writer, multi-instrumentalist and music historian Don Meade, it was the only reel composed by Reynolds (who was long a resident of Staten Island, N.Y., and very influential in the mid-20th century Irish music scene in New York City). Some hear in it a reworking of the slip jig of the same name (“Rakes of Drumlish (1)”), but if so it is quite distanced.

Source for notated version: New York fiddler Tony DeMarco [Black].

Printed sources: Black (Music’s the Very Best Thing), 1996; No. 75, p. 39.
