RAMELLI'S ROUT. AKA - "Ramallies Rout." English, Country Dance Tune (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title refers to the Battle of Ramillies [1] of 1706, a conflict in the War of the Spanish Succession. The allied Dutch, English, and Danish forces under the command of the Duke of Marlborough gave him a second victory in the field over the French-led army of Louis XIV (which included Bavarian and Spanish troops), and allowed the allies to roll up down after town in Belgium. By the end of the campaign Villeroi's French army had been driven from most of the Spanish Netherlands. The country dance and tune were published in London by John Young in his Second Volume of the Dancing Master, 1st edition (1706).
