LOCHABER GATHERING. Scottish, Cape Breton; March (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Composed by Pipe Major George S. McLennan [1] (1883-1929), the melody is popular at piping competitions. McLennan was born into a piping family; his father, Ian McLennan, published a rather small collection called The Piobaireachd in 1923.
The Lochobar Gathering is a pipe competition that dates at least to 1816, when the event was recorded in the annals of the Highland Society of London.
