OLD RED PETTICOAT, THE. England, Jig (6/8 time). England, Isle of Mann. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is from the manuscript collection of Dr. John Clague (1842-1908), currently kept at the Manx Museum (Isle of Mann). It was collected by P. Leighton-Stowell from Mrs. Watterson, Colby Level, The Isle of Mann. A thick red flannel petticoat was often worm for warmth in the wintertime by island residents.
