REJECTED LOVER [2], THE ("An Graduigteoir Treigre" or "An Graidheoir duilteach"). Irish, Air (3/4 time, "very slow and plaintive"). G Major (O'Neill): E Flat Major (O'Sullivan/Bunting). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill): AABB (O'Sullivan/Bunting). Beginning "In Innisfallen's Fairy Isle," the air was set by Stanford with words by A.P. Graves. Words to the song begin:

Her hair was like the beaten gold,
Or like the spider's spinning;
It was in her you might behold
My joys and woes beginning.

Source for notated version: the melody was noted by Belfast musician and collector Edward Bunting (1773–1843) in 1792 from Dr. William Stokes.
