PLOUGHMAN'S REEL. AKA and see "Clodun Reel," "Duke of Cumberland's Reel." English, Reel. England, Northumberland. G Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was entered into the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook (Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria) as "Duke of Cumberland's Reel." The Duke, Prince William Augustus [1] (1721-1765), was in command of the British forces that defeated Prince Charles Stuart's army at the Battle of Culloden, 1746.
