JOHN BROWN'S MARCH [2]. AKA and see "Harper's Ferry." American, March (4/4 time). USA, southwestern Pa. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Named after the abolitionist who stormed the United States Arsenal at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, in 1859, and who was hanged for treason, a martyr to the cause of emancipation or a terrorist depending on one's point of view. There is some thought Brown's 'march' was his march to the scaffold, although this maybe apocryphal. There are other tunes also associated with the scaffold.
