DUCHESS OF ROXBURGHES' STRATHSPEY, THE. Scottish, Strathspey ("Slow when not danced"). E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). The Duchess was the wife of Sir James Innes, Baronet, 5th Duke of Roxburghe of Floors Castle, who lived in Innes House, near Elgin. Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999) reports that eight days after the death of his first wife Sir James married Harriet Charlewood of Brighton.
