CYMBAL, LA. AKA and see "Wren (The)." English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBC. The melody first appears in Charles and Samuel Thompson's third country dance collection (London, 1773). A version turns up in P.M. Haverty's One Hundred Irish Tunes vol. 1 (1858) under the title "Wren (The)," a two-part tune that is cognate with the first and third strains of the Thompson's melody.
