GLASGOW FLOURISH. AKA and see "Miss Admiral Gordon's Reel." Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest printing of this tune in Glaswegian musician Joshua Campbell's 1778 collection (p. 65, reprinted in his 1789 collection of the same title). The name "Glasgow Flourish" comes from the motto of the city of Glasgow, 'Let Glasgow Flourish'. The title also refers to a Scottish country dance in hornpipe time. Glasgow is Gaelic for 'green hollow.'
