HONORABLE MRS. F. GRAY. "Honorable Mr. Gray's Strathspey." Scottish, Strathspey. F Major (Glen): D Major (Aird). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. The tune was composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831), according to John Glen. However, the tune was printed in Robert Mackintosh's 1793 collection as "Honorable Mr. Gray's Strathspey," reprinted by Robert Petrie in 1796. With a change of gender, it was printed as "Honorable Mrs. Gray's Strathspey" in James Aird's Glasgow-published Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 5 (1801).

The title refers to Mary Ann Johnston, daughter of Lt. Col. James Johnston, who, in 1794 married Francis Gray, 14th Lord Gray.
