BUTTOCK OF BEEF. AKA - "Buttock Beaf," "Buttock of Beaf." English, Country Dance Tune or Jig (6/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody as "Buttock Beaf" was first printed in dancing master Daniel Wright's An Extraordinary Collection of Pleasant and merry Humour's never before Published, Containing Hornpipes, Jiggs, North Cuntry Frisks', Morris's, Bagpipe Hornpipe's, & Round's with Severall Additonal fancis added. fit for all those that play Publick. (c. 1715), later included in Wright's 1740 country dance collection (printed in London by John Johnson). The tune also appears in John Walsh's Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing Master, 3rd Edition (London, 1735, p. 96, and the subsequent edition of 1749, p. 96).
