DOWN THE BANK. AKA and see "Down with the Peebles." English, Reel (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The first appearance of the tune is in Northumbrian musician William Vickers 1770 music manuscript collection [1]. The FARNE site identifies the (first strain of the) reel as being a member of the family of tunes that includes "Aldivalloch", "Roy's Wife of Aldivalloch", "Ruffian's Rant", and David Young's similarly titled "Down on Yon Bank." A version was also entered into music manuscript of piper John Sutherland (1785), and the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of Canon biography:James Goodman (County Cork), vol. iii, p. 95 [2].
