ROUT [2]. THE. AKA and see "Royal Quickstep (1)." English, American; Country Dance Tune or March (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABA. The tune appears as "The Rout" in G. Graupner's Boston-published Cotillions and Country Dances No. 2 (1808), and two of Boston publisher Elias Howe's mid-19th century collections, but was originally called "Royal Quickstep (1)." Under the latter title it appears in late 18th century publications and musicians' manuscripts in England and America. See note for "annotation:Rout (1) (The)" for explanation of the title.
