RUBEN [1]. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Ruben [1]" appears with directions for a country dance in the first two editions of John Young's The Second Volume of the Dancing Master, published in London in 1710 and 1714, and also was printed in John Walsh's Second Book of the New Country Dancing Master (London, 1710, p. 78). A different melody called "Ruben" (see "Ruben (2)") was substituted for the third and fourth (final) volumes of Young's Second Volume of the Dancing Master series, which was last published in 1782.
