MOTHER'S DELIGHT (Aoibhneas na Máthar). AKA and see "Malloy's Favorite." Irish, Reel. Ireland, County Donegal. D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Breathnach): AABB (Taylor). A three-part tune he called "Mother's Delight" was recorded by fiddler James (Jim) Clark (1887-1938) of Drumlish, Co. Longford, in October, 1928 in New York, and again in 1935 (as "Dowd's Favorite."). That version was also privately recorded by Michael Coleman on a privately made disc. A two-part version played by Donegal fiddler John Doherty has become known under the "Mother's Delight" name via recordings by Paddy Glackin (on his eponymous first 1977 LP, played on the viola) and others. Doherty's setting was published in The Northern Fiddler under the mistaken name "The Cameronian Reel" (see note for "Annotation:Cameronian Reel (3) (The)").
The family of tunes that includes "Colonel McBain", "Sean Frank" and "Johnny's Wedding" is seemingly related.
