GOWER REEL. AKA and see "Lumbers." Welsh, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Collected by the great English collector Maude Karpeles, a contemporary of and collaborator with Cecil Sharpe, at Port Eynon, Gower, Wales in 1927. The tune is a reel setting of "Rickett's Hornpipe" AKA "Manchester Hornpipe. A mouth-music version used for step-dancing was famously recorded from the Phil Tanner for Columbia Records in 1937, and recorded, probably by Maud Karpeles, at Penmaen Gower, Wales, April 22, 1949. Tanner said he resorted to mouth music when the last fiddler in the region died.
