The tune is contained in vol. 2 of the mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper James Gooodman, who obtained it from the music manuscripts of 19th century bookseller John O'Daly. The melody is also related to the session reel "Graf Spee (The)."
