The tune is contained in vol. 2 (p. 150) of the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper biography:James Goodman. Goodman manuscripts researchers Hugh and Lisa Shields find cognate tunes in "Five Leaved Clover" and "Hetty's Wishes," and Goodman's own "My Love she wears a Dandy" (vol. 1, p. 249). They also not the similarity to the popular session reel "Hunter's Purse (The)."
