NUNRICH FAIR. AKA and see "Wood Nunrich Fair," "Wotton Underhedge Fair." English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). England, Yorkshire. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was published in Alexander Will's Ten New Fashionable Irish Dances...& three Favorite Waltzs's (London, 1800, p. 17) as "Nunrich Fair; or, The Princes Frolick." Glasgow publisher James Aird printed the melody under the title "Wood Nunrich Fair" in his Selections of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1 [1] (1782), a title also used John Brysson in his A Curious Collection of Favourite Tunes with Variations to which is added upwards of Fifty favorite Irish Airs (Edinburgh, 1791). However, the earliest printing of the tune appears to have been in Charles & Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 1 (London, 1758) where the jig is given as "Wotton Underhedge Fair." It is possible the "Wood Nunrich Fair" is a corruption of the "Wotton Underhedge Fair" title.
