EVICTION, THE. AKA and see "Maids of Tramore." Irish, Jig. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune begins in A dorian but resolves to G major at the end of the first strain and stays in major for the 2nd strain. Some melodic material is shared with the jig "Scatter the Mud (2)." The title could not help but evoke the wave of evictions of tenant farmers in Ireland as a result of the potato blight of the mid-1840's and the resulting periods of poverty and famine. C
