The tune is sourced to fiddler biography:Owen Chapman (1919-2002), of Chapman's Hollow, Canada, Pike County, Kentucky. It bears no musical relationship with western North Carolina fiddler Manco Sneed's nearly identically titled "Darker the Night the Better I can See," but rather is a version of "Give the Fiddler a Dram (1)," and more distantly, the British hornpipe "Cuckoo's Nest (13)"/"Jacky Tar."
