DARKER THE NIGHTS THE BETTER I SEE [2]. American, Reel (cut time). G Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. The tune is sourced to fiddler biography:Owen Chapman (1919-2002), of Chapman's Hollow, Canada, Pike County, Kentucky. It bears no musical relationship with western North Carolina fiddler Manco Sneed's nearly identically titled "Darker the Night the better I can See (1) (The)," but rather is a version of "Give the Fiddler a Dram (1)," and has distant similarities to the British hornpipe "Cuckoo's Nest (4)"/"Jacky Tar."
