“Ednyved Vychan, Lord of Bryn Ffenigl, held great power and authority in Wales, in the former part of the XIIIth century. He was chief Counsellor and Minister to Llewelyn the Great, and leader of his Armies against the Saxons. He usually fought with great success, and bringing back from one of his battles the heads of three Saxon Generals whom he had slain with his own hands, was rewarded by that Prince with a new coat of Arms, Gules a Chevron between three Saxons heads, proper, couped. Of him descended Owen Tudor, of Penmynydd, in the Isle of Anglesey, who married Queen Catherine, Wife of H. the V.”
