Annotation:Countess of Dalkeith
Back to Countess of Dalkeith
COUNTESS OF DALKEITH. AKA and see "Highland Time," "Kinrara (1)." Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). B-Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Gow): AAB (Petrie). William Marshall (1748-1833) claimed composer credit for this tune as the "Kinrara Strathspey" which appears in his First Collection of 1781. Marshall also printed it in his Kinrara Collection (1800) under the title "Highland Time." It was re-titled by the Gows and appears in their Fourth Collection of 1800 without composer credits, which has led many to cite this as another instance of the Gows' plagiarism of others' melodies. Petrie published it in 1802, restoring credit to Marshall for the composition.
