MICKEY BY THE FIRESIDE (Micaelin Cois na Teine). Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AA'B (O'Neill/Krassen). A reel printed by Francis O'Neill in Music of Ireland (1903), and picked up by Highland pipers through David Glen's Irish Tunes for the Scottish and Irish War Pipes (Edinburgh, 1911). However, Glen was the arranger, and the tunes had been compiled by a Chicago musician, William Walsh. O'Neill gives a sketch of Walsh (along with a photograph) in his Irish Minstrels and Musicians (1913, pp. 356-357).
