Annotation:Mrs. Fleming of Moness
Tune properties and standard notation
MRS. FLEMING OF MONESS. AKA and see "Mrs. Stewart Fleming of Killiechassie." Scottish, Strathspey. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Probably composed by Neil Gow, for it appears in his Beauties of Niel Gow, published in 1819, however, the melody had appeared in earlier Gow publications (the First and Second Collections, both editions of each) without composer credit. Gow directs: "This tune may be played slow.” The Flemings of Moness, an ancient family, became extinct as a family sometime in the late 18th century. Robert Stewart of Moness and Killiechassie married Emilia Fleming.
