SHEPARD JONES HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe (2/4 time). USA, Long Island, New York. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Jones was the real-life fiddler depicted in William Sidney Mount's 1845 oil painting Dance of the Haymakers. The first strain is similar to "Martha Campbell (1)."

Additional notes

Source for notated version: - the c. 1840’s/50’s music manuscripts of painter William Sidney Mount (1807-1868), of Setauket, Long Island, who obtained the tune from his friend, neighbour and fellow fiddler, Shepard Jones, dated February, 1854. The manuscripts are presently in the possession of the Long Island Museum of Art [Kuntz].
