SHEPHERD'S DAUGHTER [2], THE. AKA and see "Parson and Dorothy." English, Country Dance Tune (4/4 or 2/2 time). G Dorian (Chappell): G Minor (Sharp). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC (Sharp): ABCC (Chappell). Chappell (1859) quotes Percy who states this air was a popular tune in the time of Elizabeth I, "being usually printed with her picture before it." The melody was printed by KJohn Playford in the 2nd edition of The Dancing Master (1652) as "Parson and Dorothy," giving "The Shepherd's Daughter" as the alternate title.
