BLUE GARTERS, THE. Irish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B (O'Neill {1850}): AA'BB' (O'Neill {Krassen}). Paul de Grae remarks that the reel is not to be found in older collections, and suggests it may be a composition of O'Neill's source John McFadden^[1]. He points out that the second strain is to be found in several tunes in different keys. A version of melody was recorded by Québec fiddler Joseph Allard in 1930 under the title "Reel de la tuque bleue," while Canadian 'down-east' style fiddler Don Messer later produced a similar variant called "Snowshoer's Reel (1) (The)."
