SHUFFLE ABOUT [1]. AKA - "Shuffling Back." American, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. While most modern “revival” sources can be traced to a 1970’s recording by Vermont fiddler Pete Sutherland, it appears that Sutherland himself had the tune from a 1975 field recording by Bruce Greene of fiddler Everett Kays of Anderson County, Kentucky. The tune was called “Shuffling Back” by Kays.
Hear Kays’ recording at the Digital Library of Appalachia [1], tune number B02 on BG-OR-R013 in the Bruce Greene Collection SAA 90, Berea College Southern Appalachian Archives.
