SIFTING SAND. AKA and see "Hog Eye (1)." American. The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. "Sifting sand" are words in a floating verse ("Sally in the garden, sifting, sifting, Sally in the garden sifting sand") that can be found in several fiddle and play part tunes.
