SIR ARTHUR WELLESL(E)Y’S DASH. English, Waltz (3/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Sir Arthur Wellesley became the Duke of Wellington, the victor at Waterloo over Napoleon. At the time of Cahusac’s publication (1809) he was involved in aiding the Portuguese against in their revolt against the French on the Iberian Peninsula. The campaign lasted some eight years and eventually culminated in the invasion of France and the capture of Toulouse in 1814, following which Napoleon abdicated.
