The melody, with instructions for a country dance, was first published by John Walsh in his Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master, 3rd edition (London, 1735, No. 9, p. 5, reprinted in 1749). It was also published by John Johnson in his Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 3 (London, 1740, p. 28. London musician Thomas Hammersley entered a version into his c. 1790 music copybook (p. 24).
