PRETTY BELL. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody and directions for a country dance were first published in John Hinton's Universal Magazine of Knowledge & Pleasure (Nov. 1749, p. 223), and subsequently were reproduced in John Johnson's Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 5 (1750, p. 25) and David Rutherford's Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (London, 1756, p. 27).
