INVERSHIRE [1]. Scottish, Strathspey. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). Invershie was home to the MacPherson family who lived at Cluny Castle, relations to the famous outlaw James MacPherson (see note for "MacPherson's Farewell"). Supporters of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the rebellion of 1745, they had their castle burned to the ground after Culloden, and MacPherson of Cluny had a price of £1,000 placed on his head, a huge sum for the times. Nevertheless, he eluded capture for nine years, living in various hiding places although particularly at Craig Dhu. He and his wife later successfully escaped to France.
