SIR JAMES BAIRD’S (STRATHSPEY). Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. “Very old,” notes Gow in 1788. As the Gows indicate the tune predates them, the title may refer to Sir James Baird of Saughtonhall, 2nd Baronet, who died in May, 1715. The son of Sir Robert Baird, 1st Baronet of Saughtonhall, and Elizabeth Fleming, he became baronet in 1697 on the death of his father, in 1712 entailing the lands of Saughtonhall.
