SIR MANLY POWER. English, March. At one time the regimental march past of the 57th Regiment (West Middlesex), until their local General ordered them to discontinue it as he considered it to be: “All drum and damned noise!” (David Murry, Music of the Scottish Regiments, 1994). The old 57th was amalgamated into The Middlesex Regiment in 1881, and in 1896 the 1st battalion was reauthorized to revert to “Sir Manly Power.”
